Kaila Methven is the brains behind possibly the world’s most expensive lingerie label, and she’s not only successful she’s also drop-dead gorgeous.

At just 16 years old, Kaila interned at her first Paris Fashion Show and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from the International Fashion Academy – Paris. She completed advanced training at Polymodo in Florence.

Kaila has so far been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Maxim and she has dressed some of today’s sexiest stars including the likes of Demi Lovato, Katherine McPhee, The Kardashians, and more. Kaila has just released her new vivacious, ultra sexy lingerie and intimate apparel line called “Lady Methven” and it was created for the everyday woman. Combining childlike innocence, erotic playfulness, and female power, Kaila dares everyone to fall in love again. Sassy & Co Magazine recently sat down with Kaila to find out more about the luxury lingerie brand the whole world is currently gushing about and here’s what went down.

1. What sparked your interest in fashion?

I’ve always been creative since I was a little girl. After interning at Dior fashion shows, I learned a lot and I knew eventually that I was meant to be Madame Methven – the sexiest lingerie designer of all time.

2. What made you take fashion more seriously and make a career out of it?

Looking at other designers like Donatella Versace and interning for Vogue, Christian Louboutin, John Charles, and John Gilliano…they all inspired me to start my own company but with a Madame Methven twist.

3. How has your work evolved since you began your own label?

My fashion has evolved as I’ve evolved in other projects, such as the EDM world. I was inspired to bring my lingerie side to enhance festival wear, seeing as festival wear doesn’t have much more than nipple pasties. As more projects and collaborations started, I learned more and pushed myself harder.

4. Are there any types of clothing that you avoid wearing?

Anything that isn’t black or gold I won’t wear, I stand by my brand. I feel that as a CEO I need to always represent my brand and look professional. I do love wearing my Disney shirts at home and occasionally for running my errands.

5. How is your work received internationally?

I have a wonderful team that helps me with generating press on various fashion outlets around the world. I feel very blessed to have this but I feel most blessed by God for letting me be known worldwide and enabling me to attend to many people all over the world as possible with my Plur Association and my Madame Methven line.

6. How do influences from outside of LA find their way into your work?

Mostly social media, Instagram, and Facebook. There are so many more opportunities out there and during this pandemic, there seem to be a lot more resources and inspirations out there to find more about.

7. What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work?

Sage and incense always stay lit inside my house because it keeps my mind at ease so I can concentrate more. It gives me positive energy so I can continue to be inspired to create more projects.

8. What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your company?

You must sacrifice some things in life in order to be successful. Strive in what you believe in and believe in what you do.

9. What is your current fashion obsession?

Some lace pajamas, because of the pandemic it’s what I always wear. They are quite comfortable and they can actually make you feel sexy – since bikinis haven’t been really fashionable lately due to COVID-19 anyway. I’ve never worn pajamas more then I have in the past 3 months and I wear them in the morning, afternoon, and night time.

10. How do you think lingerie is dictating fashion trends for 2020?

Lingerie has been a growing trend for the past couple of years. Since brand ambassadors of various lingerie companies have also helped with the recognition of lingerie as part of society, it helps bring more awareness. You can see a change when it comes to empowering women to feel sexy and be women again.

11. Can you give some tips to men who are looking to purchase lingerie?

To the men out there who want to purchase lingerie, try to put yourself in a woman’s Christian Louboutin shoes, then ask yourself; “what would I look sexy in?” And then visit my website: www.madamemethven.com.

Otherwise, all women love black because you can never go wrong or get dontell or lace, women love expensive lingerie like mine with custom made rubies pearls and diamonds.

12. What advice would you give to young designers?

Get ready to enter the battlefield because you’re going to have 100 doors close on you! But you should never stop knocking on doors because one day one of those doors will open and then it will really be the fight of your life. You will eventually create some magic but it’s going to be a very long journey. Sometimes you would want to cry and just stop, but Couture fashion is one of the hardest careers out there to get into. You can always reach me by dialing 1(833)MadameM.

10 Genius Tips & Tricks To Handle Any Fashion Emergency

Life is full of unforeseen glitches. You’re running to a meeting and you snap your heel. You reach up and a button on your trouser comes loose, or your bra straps start to show while wearing your favourite cocktail dress. It seems like wardrobe malfunctions always occur at the most inconvenient times… just ask Janet Jackson!

Here are the top 10 suggestions for solving your common fashion emergencies:

10. My poor pilled sweaters

Don’t just stand there pulling lint off yourself! These can be removed either with a lint sandpaper (rub across sweater to remove pills) or a razor. Sticky tape works well for this too. Leggings and coloured tights are in full force this winter, and it’s all about experimenting with patterns and different lengths. If you are starting out, you can find some cheap leggings from shops like Valley Girl or Hipster.

9. Oops, I snapped my heel!

As Mentos-sy (remember the commercials?) as it may be, snap the other heel off & dash to the nearest shoe store!

8. Eww, makeup stains

Baby or make-up wipes are ideal for removing or reducing makeup stains on clothing. However, do not try to remove any stains from silk – go to a dry cleaner.

7. Can you see my pantyhose runs?

A small run in pantyhose can soon develop into a full-fledged tear. Use clear nail polish over the run to stop it spreading.

6. Where did my hairpins go?

Dancing your head away in a concert can make your hairpins come loose and go missing. You can’t do much other than stepping out of the ball just to buy some new ones around the corner. So tuck those stray hairs behind your ears for a smouldering sexy look.

5. My hems have fallen!

For a make-do hem in a hurry, use Hollywood tape or Res Q tape. This is double-sided tape specially designed as a temporary fix for clothing.

4. Noo.. not my bra straps!

There is nothing more annoying than forever having to pull your bra straps back up onto your shoulders. Use some double-sided tape to avoid slipping straps. Cut and re-sew the back straps further in toward the centre of your back, or purchase bra clasps – these are attached at the back and pull the two back straps together, however you will need a second person to do this for you.

3. My most uncomfortable: Static Cling

This often happens with skirts. For a fix on the run, rub hand cream into your thighs (through pantyhose if necessary). The best way of preventing static cling is to spray “anti-static spay” to the inside of your skirt. You can buy this at supermarkets in the hosiery section and in the lingerie section of department stores.

2. My zipper is stuck

First run a lead pencil along with the teeth, if this does not work rub a bar of soap or a wax candle onto the problem area. With a little manipulation, the zipper should come unstuck.

1. Can I leave my buttons loose/frayed?

A loose button can quickly turn into a missing button. Dab the top of the button with a little clear nail polish to prevent it from completely falling off. Re-sew it back on firmly ASAP.

Remember to wear your leggings as if they were tights…leggings worn as pants are not a good look unless you are going to the gym.

You can extend the wear from your Autumn wardrobe. Dresses and short shorts look great over leggings. Team them with a pair of boots (long leather or short slouchy are in right now) and a waisted belt for a truly hip look. Have fun with it and mix and match items until you find a look that says “You”.

For those who aren’t blessed with super skinny, toned legs, wearing leggings underneath shorter outfits can be much more flattering and you will feel more confident.

Leggings look great under long tops or shift dresses. Try a sweater dress with a cute scarf to keep you warm and looking great.

5 Tips For Organising Your Wardrobe For Stress-Free Daily Dressing

It is going to be a cold one this year girls so pack up those summer threads and bring out the Autumn/winter outfits.

Firstly, let’s start with the basics. The must-haves for this season are leggings (long or short), stockings (patterned or plain) and tights (dark or light). These basics can be worn with sweater dresses, pinafores, long cardis and basically any autumn dress. Dresses can be woolen or knit, long-sleeved or three quarters and even turtlenecks are great. Autumn colours include shades of gray, black, mustard and purple. You can’t go wrong with these colours.

Coats are always great for Autumn going into winter. They keep you warm and you can look trendy as well. Make sure these coats are tailored to give you a flattering shape.

Boots, worn above the knee or to your ankles are perfect for these cold Autumn days. They keep you looking chic.

The seventies look is back, with tops and dresses sporting the puffy sleeves and short hemlines.

Accessories that are always popular include gloves, scarves, woolen beanies, and leg warmers. These are essential to lessen the cold this Autumn going into winter.

So get on the Autumn bandwagon and dress to kill to avoid the chill.

One of our readers has recently written to our magazine and asked a very good question. Emilie from Kings Park asks “I really like shopping but I never have enough money to buy the latest looks, what are my options?”

Well, Emilie, it is still possible to look stylish without breaking the budget. First of all, always look around and do not buy the first thing that you see. More than likely, you will find the same top in another store with a substantial price difference. Always buy something after you have shopped around. Also, you do not have to buy all the latest looks and trends. Just buy one or two pieces that are popular this season and dress it up. It is all about your own individual style and flair.

The Top 3 Fashion Trends Of 2020 That Every Fashionista Should Know About

So, we have once again turned the page on a New Year. Cue those gym memberships, detox regimes, and obligatory personal pledges and promises. If you want a ‘new you’ in the New Year, there’s one resolution that you may actually be able to stick to. And, that’s keeping fab and fresh with the season’s fashion forecast!

So, what are the top trends for 2019?

1. Bigger IS better

If Harper’s Bazaar and Lady Gaga have it right, then it’s time to embrace a fuller, floatier silhouette. Think peasant-style frocks with balloon sleeves and tiered hemlines. Perfect for summer, voluminous styles are as breathable as they are fashion-forward. Casual styles can be worn at the beach, with dressier takes on this look adopted for work or even a night out.

The voluminous dress has even been pinpointed as a top trend in wedding dresses. It’s all in the flounce, with a ‘return to romance’ touted as this season’s major mood. So, feel free to indulge in the fairytale factor, but do pair a statement dress with flats and simple accessories – in order to stop yourself from wandering away completely into ‘naff-land’!

2. Twist and shout

Nineties nostalgia reigns supreme. A 2109 reimagining of this psychedelic counterculture staple sees the characteristic loudness of this print dialed down a notch or two. Like you, we never thought we’d see tie-dye as high-street fashion!

But, lo-and-behold we are already starting to witness the ‘tie-die titillation’ – filtering down from New York Fashion week and onto the racks of some very-real retailers (the likes of Urban Outfitters and Revolve). With the print taking centre stage on blazers, tees and even tailored pants, it’s a look that (whether love or loathe) you certainly won’t be able to hide from!

3. Animal magnetism

Leopard and other animal prints have always maintained a simmering allure, especially in the world of accessories. This year feline and other safari motifs are set to take over, becoming slinker and all-the-more visible. Reinvisioned for the warmer months, those jungle spots and python stripes are now appearing against a backdrop of vivid brights (such as neon yellow and sky blue)!

You can’t go past an animal print dress in a silky fabric for credible cool. And, you can give Meaghan Markle a run for her money in some similarly styled pumps and matching handbag. If you are not a fan of too much leopard, consider a scarf or an accented pair of sunnies for just a sprinkle of what can be a very dominant look.

Whilst the strike of the clock on New Years may not have automatically generated a brand new life, the second-best thing may just be a brand-new wardrobe. You may still be working on quitting those cigarettes or becoming ‘settled-down’ (like your mother wants). But, regardless of the situation, you sure can do it in style with the above tips!

5 Hacks to Make You Look Chic But Not Vulgar

Dressing chic just comes naturally to some women while others must struggle a little in order to maintain a personal style. We say you ditch the seasonal trend book and device your own fashion rules to always look sassy and chic no matter what’s the occasion. To us, a chic look would have the right amount of glamour mixed with an urban edginess. Here are a few ways to keep up the chic style:

Fashion Hack # 1: Go by the Tri-color Outfit Rule

One of the simplest and basic rules to dress chic is to keep your outfit a little neat and put together; this you can achieve by not mixing more than three colors in your outfit at a time. While a kaleidoscope of tones and shades would appear desirable and artsy to some, pulling it off is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, ensuring that you don’t flaunt more than three colors in the same outfit at a time would make carrying an outfit easy for you.

Just so you know, basics such as a white top or black jeans won’t necessarily count as a ‘color’. Also, busy prints would count as one.

Fashion Hack # 2: Focus on the Basics

We can’t emphasize this point enough! Basics such as a black V-neck figure-hugging t-shirt; a white chiffon top with ruffled sleeves or a white crisp button-up are the key items that would lay the foundation of a solid chic outfit. Use them as a base to build your style. Add on an accent piece and take it up from there.

Fashion Hack # 3: Accessorize

Watches, dainty layered necklaces, trendy scarves, handbags, sunglasses – these minute details really accentuate your outfit. It shows that you pay attention to the details and really ties the entire look together.

Fashion Hack # 4: Rock a Bright Pout

If it’s summer season, go for a vibrant pink; if it’s autumnal bliss, rock a deep plum! A bold pout really makes for a loud and daring fashion statement. When you pair this look with the toned-down outfit it gives off a very cool trendy and uber chic vibe.

Fashion Hack # 5: Invest in a Good Pair of Jeans

Now, this may sound like a no-brainer, but a good pair of jeans can really make or break your entire look. Opt for skinny jeans or slim-fit pairs that create an illusion of elongated legs and narrow waists. Now you can play with textures and colors for your top.

Becoming A Fashion Designer: The Backbreakin Path to Success

I hate to be the one to burst the bubble of fashion enthusiasts, but there are a lot of misconceptions about fashion designing. One of which is the thought that it is easy for you to become part of the statistics of the most popular fashion designers such as Coco Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Georgio Armani, among others. Another misconception is that fashion is all about glamour! Well… Surprise! It’s not. Just like being a famous celebrity, everything that is too good to be true has a certain price to pay for. Third, fashion schools teach only the basic things you need to know. When you eventually go out in the real world to start your business, you will be shocked to find out that you still have a lot to learn.

Passing Through the Eye of a Needle

In all actuality, becoming an established fashion designer is just like becoming a bonafide movie star. It’s like a camel passing through the eye of a needle. First and foremost, you have to compete with famous fashion designers who serve as the edifice of the industry… which is by the way, close to impossible. If you are persistent enough, then, perhaps, you can still land a career in fashion and you might even end up working for a recognized and reputable fashion designer. Start doing your homework and reading other materials that will help you get prepared for the big challenges ahead of you – it’s going to be a bumpy road.

The Price You Have to Pay

If you become an established celebrity, privacy will certainly be a luxury. Do you also know that there are some famous fashion designers that commit suicide? Why is this so? It’s simply because they are not happy…the truth is – behind the fame, popularity, and glamour…there is emptiness deep inside them that cannot be satisfied by self-fulfillment.

Fashion 101

In fashion school, you are taught to sew, draw, sketch, drape and make patterns. Once you have finished the course, you will feel confident that you are equipped with the needed knowledge, skills and values to succeed as a fashion designer. Alas! While the skills you learned in a fashion school are important, some of the stuff you learned is not as practical in the real world of fashion. If you decide to become an intern, you are expected to know how to sketch flats, design clothes using CAD’s, create garment specs and prepare presentation boards. Having said that, it is quite normal that all your ideal expectations will probably be shattered into bits and pieces. Eventually, you’ll realize that you have to mostly self-teach yourself with all the new concepts being thrown at you.

Different Branches of Fashion

Fashion is a massive entity in itself… it is not always about clothes. In fact, there are a lot of niches you can tap into in the fashion industry — you can be a stylist, designer, photographer, forecaster, and merchandiser, among others. If you are lucky enough, you will have the opportunity to experience working with some of them, if not all. And from there, you can weigh things up and determine which category really suits you best. It is important for you to develop an action plan so you’ll more likely have a better chance of reaching your goals.

How To Dress Classy And Look Like A Million Bucks On A Shoestring Budget

Let’s face it; it’s standard for fashion conscious individuals to always look chic and fabulous.  They simply want to stand out in society with their fashion statement.  While it is true that Hollywood celebrities are the ones we copy our fashion styles from, but, we need not go to the point of imitating the brands of the clothes they wear!  Of course, we will always see them wearing expensive designer clothes.  But, if you’re a practical woman with a sense of fashion there are actually alternatives that will still make you look fabulous in a budget-friendly way.

Subscribe to Fashion Magazines

There are a lot of fashion magazines on the market today—Vogue, In Style, Vanity Fair, among others.  You just have to be keen on observing the fashion styles of famous celebrities and get an idea from there.  You don’t need to buy the exact brands that they are wearing especially if you are on a budget, but you can always visit sites like the budget babe who can show you where to get celeb outfits at a much cheaper price.

 Mix and Match

Checking out various fashion magazines have given us an idea what clothes look trendy and fashionably hot.  Do not be afraid to mix and match outfits.  It is important that we take courage and enjoy doing this; otherwise, we might end up uncomfortable with the clothes we mixed and matched.  If done correctly, you may be surprised at how it works wonders!  Your old jeans might look new when paired with a different t-shirt or shoe style and your vintage shirts or blouses will have a new look once paired with accessories.

Accessorizing

You don’t need to have a lot of clothes in your wardrobe just to flash a different look every time you go out of our house.  All you need to do is buy neutral coloured clothes and heaps of accessories.  Investing in accessories is much cheaper than buying lots of clothes. You will be in awe of knowing how accessories can totally change the look and style of your clothes…transforming them into another kind of style that you never thought was even possible before.

Dig In Thrift Stores

You can find a lot of clothes on sale in thrift stores.  All you have to do is to have the patience and the eye for the right clothes that will match some of your old outfits.  Moreover, big department store chains also sell clothes on sale on an occasional or seasonal basis.  You have to be updated on those things in order to be the first one to buy the good stuff on sale.  Needless to say, the best things on sale are the first ones being sold.  So, the saying, “The early bird catches the early worm.” really fits into this scenario.

Change Your Hairstyle

Hair is our crowning glory…it can make or break us.  So, if we want to look fashionably hot without breaking out banks, then, we need to do something with our hairstyle.  Did you know that a different kind of hair colour or style can instantly make a fashion statement?  Also, do not underestimate what hair accessories can do.  If applied correctly to your hair, they can make you look a million dollar baby!

5 Simple Tips To Maintain The Picture-Perfect Complexion

Our skin reacts to the environment we are in. I’ve worked with hundreds of girls over the years and one of the things I discovered is that not many people change their makeup and skincare seasonally.

It’s a great practice to get into the habit of switching up your key products according to the seasons. As a model, products and layers of heavy makeup are applied on the daily. One of the top priorities for you should be a consistent regime to maintain the perfect complexion. Here are five helpful tips to help save your skin:

More Sunshine = More Sunscreen

Get into the habit of using an SPF daily, as Aussie sun is extremely damaging even though we’re currently in the middle of winter. Whether that be swapping out your foundation for a tinted SPF, or adding a layer of sunscreen as your primer. To avoid issues with pigmentation, loss of collagen, elastin and accelerated signs of aging – always use an SPF30+ when outdoors. SPF 50+ for added points of protection.

You can easily dodge pigmentation concerns when you incorporate a consistent sunscreen routine into your beauty regime. If you have pigment/melasma concerns, serums that are high in Vitamin C, Niacinamide or Retinol are great options for daily treatment.

Detox More Frequently

Always amp up your cleansing and detoxing regime. Ensure you are doing deep cleansing masks or treatments once a week, on top of your daily double cleanse at night with your preferred cleanser (Kaolin clay masks work great, or oxygen activated products are the new rage at the moment). Sunscreen absorbs deeper into the skin, thus cleansing has to be incredibly effective.

Facials are a great way to eliminate toxins via lymphatic drainage and are a cheat way to achieve a glowing complexion within one session. I would highly recommend a facial with a reputable skin clinic with every change of season, that way you are always staying on top of your skin needs.

Don’t Forget Your Toner

When toners first came onto the market, they were laden with heavy acids and alcohol. These are the ones that should be used sparingly, and even avoided!

Hydrating, cleansing toners on a cotton pad as a last step of your cleansing regime will always show you how much makeup and cleanser you didn’t take off (our hands only take off 60% of our makeup, scary times!). It’s so important that we have clean skin before any moisturizer is applied. Toner also helps your serums, and creams penetrate deeper into the skin, so, therefore, you don’t have to use as much cream as you think you need! Win-win!

Bold Trends For Wintertime Glam

There is something about wintertime that calls for elevated glam. I love adding Classic Reds and punchy bright hues of fuchsia or deep oranges to enhance a glowy complexion.

DO: keep your lipstick texture in mind.

If you’re prone to dry lips, opt for creamy formulas, or sheer glossy lipsticks (and be sure to exfoliate your lips beforehand). That way they will fade to a soft tint over the evening. If you don’t feel like touching up over the evening, reach for the punchy mattes and keep the colour within the edges of the lip line. Remember, you don’t need lip liners with matte liquid lipsticks! Still afraid of the bold? Make your lip more wearable by using your finger as the applicator. Then using the tip of your ring finger, softly diffuse the colour around the lip line, creating more of a stained effect.

DON’T: Go overboard with the rest of your makeup when playing up the lip.

Keep the rest of the complexion clean and sophisticated. Meaning, you should keep your eyes softer to bring more attention to the gorgeous bright lip. Opt for bronze shadow. That way you are bringing attention to one area of the face, this is how you create balanced makeup.
